How to enable Remote SQL for your cPanel website
Enabling the ability to access your cPanel database can be helpful for various reasons, such as developing your website on your local machine. We can enable remote SQL on your website for you but for a valid reason. It's important to note that the cPanel database should only be used by websites hosted on cPanel, development instances, or services approved by VoltHosting (this is to avoid database abuse, and keep your databases secure from remote attackers).
Follow the steps below to enable Remote MySQL access for your server:
Firstly, log into cPanel. If you're unsure how to, take a look at our Logging In To cPanel guide.
Next, head to Databases -> Remote Database Access.
Then, under Add Access Host, enter the below information
Host: The IP Address you want to allow.
Comment: An optional identifier for your own reference.
You should NOT use the wildcard %, as this poses a significant risk to your database as all allowed external IP addresses could potentially access your database. For security reasons, you should keep this list as strict as possible.
For example:
Then click Add Host.
You should get a success message appearing on the screen.
Move onto the steps below for the next part.
For security reasons, we have an additional firewall which will prevent database connections from an IP address without approval from the VoltHosting team. We require these IPs to be logged in our system, so please create a support ticket using the steps below:
Head to the VoltHosting support ticket creation page.
Please ensure that you are logged into your client area account before creating a ticket otherwise your request will be closed.
On the creation page, please provide us with the information below:
Once all the information above has been provided, submit the ticket and our team will allow your IP address as quickly as possible!
That's it! The team will get back to you quickly with the approval of your IP address (usually within an hour!)
